Essential oils are famous for their miraculous effect on the health of the body and the human psyche. They are universally sold at more than affordable prices. But essential oils are also available at significantly higher prices, and the difference between expensive and cheap types is usually quite significant. There are certain reasons for this.
The reason for the high cost of essential oils
Essential oil is a mixture of volatile liquid substances with a specific aroma, which are released from plants by distillation, extraction or pressing. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy, as components of cosmetic and perfumery products, food flavorings, medicines, etc.
Most essential oils, by definition, are expensive products, which is due to the laborious technology of their production, because to extract 1 kg of oil, a huge amount of raw materials is required - sometimes several hundred kilograms of petals.
The price of an essential oil depends on the following factors:
- the percentage of essential oil in the plant;
- the place of growth of raw materials;
- production method;
- costs of sorting and packing, delivery from the manufacturer, certification, customs clearance, etc.
The most expensive oils are flower oils. They are squeezed from rose petals, jasmine, neroli, hyacinth, iris, mimosa, etc. They cost more than a few thousand rubles per 10 ml. Their production requires a lot of effort and expense.
Expensive and cheap essential oils
If the oil is purchased for serious purposes - aromatherapy or massage, it is worthwhile to take a responsible approach to the purchase, since low-quality oil or a fake may not have any effect, or be harmful to health.
Cheap oils for 50-100 rubles cannot be of high quality. It should be borne in mind that synthetic oils or aromatic oils are often sold in pharmacies under the guise of essential oils, where a drop of essential oil is diluted in a base oil - natural vegetable oil or even mineral oil (petrochemical product). These bottles are very cheap, and sometimes there are rare oil nearby and more affordable at the same price. So, the rare essential oil of rose cannot cost as much as fir oil. Such oils can be used as much as possible for the aromatization of rooms, they are not suitable for aromatherapy and can be harmful.
Low-quality oils can: have a pungent odor, irritate the skin, and sometimes cause allergies or poisoning. Synthetic oils have no therapeutic effect, since they do not contain valuable plant components.
Quality oils give results quickly when used correctly. They do not have an expiration date, with the exception of some, such as citrus fruits. They have a rich and pleasant aroma, but not harsh. Quality oils often come with instructions with information about the place of collection of raw materials, etc.
Thus, the value of the oils corresponds to their value. It also happens that some sellers overestimate the prices of their products, coming up with unconvincing excuses for this.
Essential oils should be purchased from reputable suppliers.
