The ability to fall asleep in any conditions is not given to so many people. Eighty percent of the adult population is able to fall asleep only in silence, which is not always possible given the noise coming from the street. In this case, earplugs can be a possible solution to the problem of light sleep.

What are earplugs

Earplugs are special devices for protecting the hearing aid from various adverse influences, which are earplugs, usually cylindrical in shape. The name of this device is derived from the phrase "take care of your ears."

Depending on the purpose, earplugs are usually divided into varieties. There are earplugs for sleeping, for shallow waters, for diving, for aircraft. They are also divided into adults and children.

In everyday life, earplugs are most often used for sleeping. Correctly chosen earplugs fit well to the ear canal and are able to protect sleep from the noise of repairs in a neighboring apartment or an unnecessarily loud holiday.

What are earplugs made of?

For the manufacture of this device, a variety of materials are used: PVC, wax, polyvinyl chloride, propylene, silicone. There are a great variety of material options, since, unfortunately, none of them is perfect. There is only one regularity: the softer the material from which the earplugs are made, the worse their noise reduction. But it is the soft materials that provide the greatest comfort due to the ability to conform to the shape of the ear canal. So the choice of material is always a balance between comfort and noise reduction.

Most often on sale you can find earplugs made of foam, wax and silicone.

However, there are situations when it is not possible to immediately go to the pharmacy and purchase earplugs, but they are needed at this very moment.

Making earplugs at home is very quick and easy. It is enough to have some soft material available, for example, pharmaceutical cotton wool or soft foam rubber.

If the earplugs are made of foam rubber, then it is enough just to cut out small cylinders from it. This shape is more anatomical and comfortable. Cylindrical earplugs will not wrinkle, which means they will not put pressure on the ear canal. You just need to remember that these cylinders must be long enough so that they can be removed later, but at the same time they must not touch the eardrum.

Cotton wool earplugs are, in fact, small cotton balls wrapped in cellophane or plastic wrap. The ends of such an impromptu "bag" are tied with a thread. Cotton earplugs are good at muffling noise and are soft enough not to interfere with normal sleep.

But all homemade earplugs are disposable. They cannot be reused.
