Step 1
The development of electronic document management requires enterprises and entrepreneurs to submit tax returns through electronic communications. To protect and authenticate the data, it is necessary to use special encryption programs and to certify the electronic document in a special way. A device designed for this purpose is called an EDS. An electronic digital signature is issued by special certification centers and is an information object that allows you to verify the authenticity and safety of the data signed by it. The EDS is valid for 1 year, after this period, the document must be created again.

In addition to cryptographic data, an EDS must contain the necessary technical information and data about its owner, the date and time of signing the document, and include additional mechanisms for verifying the signature. In addition, you can add other data that may be in demand: a graphic signature, comments on the document, and additional files.

Depending on the type of the certified document, various types of electronic signatures have been developed: attached and detached. In the first case, the process is similar to placing the document in a sealed envelope, which can be authenticated upon retrieval. In this case, it is convenient to send the file, but without additional equipment designed to decrypt the data, the document cannot be read. In cases where a detached signature is used, it is necessary to create several separate files and send them together. However, such documents can be read without the use of special cryptographic equipment, which is quite convenient.

Since an EDS is an electronic document, accordingly, it does not have any appearance, but the complex of technical means of which it consists of needs a carrier where you can store a private cryptographic key for it. The storage medium can be a floppy disk, CD-disk or a special flash drive with a standard USB port for connecting to a PC.

The installation of the necessary software for data encryption and certification of a document can present some difficulty for the user.
