A beautiful and well-groomed lawn can give an aristocratic charm even to a small personal plot. In addition, almost any type of shrub looks favorably against its background. The most important thing in creating a beautiful lawn is choosing grasses for it. The most popular are frost-resistant and evergreen varieties.
Herbal mixtures
Today there are many varieties of lawn grasses. As a rule, the best result is obtained when using a mixture of the two.
Usually they contain from three to eight types of plants, but the best result is achieved with mixtures of at least five herbs. Their competent combination ensures that the lawn is green all year round.
In such mixtures, herbs from the family of cereals are used, which are divided into long-term, short-term and transitional. Long-term grasses live for many years, while short-term grasses grow and develop faster.
The most common are mixtures of bent grass, perennial ryegrass, red fescue and meadow bluegrass, since they are frost-resistant and well resistant to pests.
Meadow bluegrass
This plant is most often planted in waterlogged areas, since bluegrass tolerates such conditions well. However, this does not mean that excessive watering of the lawn formed from bluegrass is acceptable. In addition, this herb has a high frost resistance, which makes it possible to use it even in harsh climates. The bluegrass produces an even lawn with a rich color.
Pasture ryegrass
Ryegrass creates a dense grass cover and grows back very quickly. Loves abundant and frequent watering, but does not tolerate flooding, like the bluegrass described above. Despite its undoubted advantages in the form of frost resistance and high growth rate, it grows poorly on heavy soils, which automatically refers it to the category of capricious grasses.
Red fescue
A less capricious plant is red fescue. For its active germination, even poor soil quality and rare watering do not become a problem. Despite the unfavorable conditions, fescue grows back after shearing and is well accepted after watering. That is why red fescue belongs to the species used in problem areas of the lawn. And one of its varieties - sheep's fescue - perfectly tolerates trampling.
Pole grass
This lawn grass is not quite common, as it can be classified as "orderlies". Due to its creeping shoots, it spreads over the site and destroys weeds. The bent leaves a very dense and neat cover with a rich hue. Quite unpretentious in terms of low temperatures, but demanding on the composition of the soil, preferring dry and acidified soil for its growth. In addition, it requires constant watering and does not tolerate drought well.
