The pillow is not an ordinary rectangle made of fabric stuffed with soft material, but a faithful companion that supports our head in the correct position for more than a third of our lives. Only few people pay attention to the choice of bedding, on which the quality of a night's sleep directly depends.
Instructions
Step 1
When choosing a pillow, it is mainly necessary to pay attention to its height and rigidity. And also take into account your favorite sleeping position and your anatomical characteristics. In any case, you can be sure that if you sleep on an uncomfortable pillow, you run the risk of serious problems with the neck and back, and this leads to a feeling of discomfort immediately after waking up. During sleep, your spine should be in a free and relaxed position, starting with the cervical spine.
Step 2
When choosing a pillow, you need to pay attention to its size, it should be about 22x17, that is, it should correspond to the width of your shoulders, and most importantly, you should not allow your head to slip during the entire sleep.
Step 3
The height of the pillow is critical. Since the pillow is high or too small, it can lead to increased curvature of the neck (cervical lordosis) and back (kyphosis). If you drop your head back from a sitting position, then the body will certainly take the wrong position. And as a result of sleeping in this position, poor posture is formed, a tightening of the muscles that support the head, leading to severe pain in the neck and back. A high pillow also causes the spine to take a wrong position during sleep, which subsequently causes a lot of unpleasant symptoms after waking up.
Step 4
The height of the pillow is directly related to the stiffness. If the pillow is very soft, then the neck will simply sink in it, and if it is very stiff, then the neck muscles will stretch. In both cases, the vertebrae are in the wrong position. From this we can conclude that if you like to sleep on your back, then you should choose a pillow of medium hardness, and if on your side, then it is better to take a rather hard one. Too soft pillows usually lead to poor blood circulation during sleep, which has a negative effect on skin elasticity, threatens edema and early wrinkles.
Step 5
The choice of pillow material is also very important. People with asthma or allergies need to choose very carefully, especially when approaching classic goose or chicken feather pillows. Since they often lead to the colonization of dust mites, which causes the development of allergies. Hypotonic patients need to sleep on pillows made of padding polyester, down or feathers, which provide good blood flow to the head throughout the night. People with high blood pressure sleep better on high feather pillows. Materials such as polyester, synthetic winterizer are very comfortable for sleeping, and besides, they are low cost and can be easily machine washed.
Step 6
Orthopedic pillows provide the highest quality and healthiest sleep. Thanks to the special weaving of the mesh, they allow you to distribute body weight so that it matches the correct bend of the cervical spine. These pillows are equipped with an "anti-mite" system, which allows you to fight the reproduction of dust mites and ensure a hygienic and healthy sleep.
