"Flight of Hope" - this is how the famous flight of Vladimir Putin was dubbed on a hang-glider at the head of a flock of cranes (Siberian Cranes). The purpose of this action is to give the birds a calculated flight path for the winter to where they will be safe. Since this species of cranes is considered endangered - there are only about 20 of them left, the flight of the President of Russia at the head of the school can be considered the fulfillment of an important state ecological task.
The methodology for such a route design for migratory birds was developed in 2001 in the United States, and was used for the first time in Russia. And, as scientists note, it is very successful. Siberian Cranes fly to India for wintering and it is there that they are subjected to mass extermination. Most of the cranes that took part in this flight were bred in captivity, so they have no idea where they need to fly. The purpose of this action was to give them a new direction to the part of the world where they will be safe. The task of a person is to lead this flight in a special suit and on an equally special hang glider.
Vladimir Putin began to prepare for this event in advance - he had already taken several flight lessons on a similar air transport. On the day for which the resettlement of birds was scheduled, there were three flights. For the first time, a hang glider, which was flown by an ornithologist pilot and the President of the Russian Federation, took off for a trial. The second attempt was already real, but the birds did not understand what they wanted from them, and only one Siberian Crane flew after the hang glider. The third attempt became more successful, and 5 birds were already lined up in a wedge.
The flight of the main leader of the pack did not last long enough. However, this news caused a sensation and an unprecedented excitement both in the media and on Internet blogs. On the topic of Putin's flight with cranes, only the lazy did not walk. Among these messages appeared and disappeared a message that during the preparation of this "Flight of Hope" three birds died. This information was later explained as a bad joke.
