The Ukrainian calendar, like many others, also has 12 months. However, they are named and spelled differently. By their names, none of the Ukrainian months coincides with the Russian one.

Step 1
In Ukraine, the names of the months differ significantly from those that exist in Russian. Some names are due to natural phenomena, determined by human activities or the nature of the weather for a particular season. For example, the month "luthi", which corresponds to Russian February, got its name because of severe frosts. The month of "leaf fall" is called so because at this time foliage falls from the trees. The month "Zhovten" is also obliged to the color of autumn leaves.

Ukraine inherited the name of some months from the Slavs. Therefore, some similar months can also be found in Belarusian, Polish, Czech, Croatian and other languages of the Slavic group. In Russia, the names of the months are of Latin origin.

Below are the names of the Ukrainian months in the original spelling, depending on the season, and their correspondence to the Russian ones. Please note that when writing months, the Ukrainian letters "e", "i" and "and" in the Russian transcription are read, respectively, as "e", "and" and "s".

The winter months are called like this: December - "breast"; January - "sichen"; February is "lutius". The spring months are written as follows: March - "birch"; April - "Quiet"; May is grass.

The summer months have the following names: June - "worm"; July - "linden"; August - "serpen". Autumn months are translated into Ukrainian as follows: September - "Veresen"; October - "zhovten"; November - leaf fall.

Ukrainian months have exactly the same number of calendar days (30 or 31) as Russian ones. There is also a leap year rule in Ukraine, when the 29th number is added to February every 4 years.
Step 7
When writing Ukrainian names of months, you need to remember the rules of their declension. Months ending in -day are written with the date and ending in -day. In this case, the letter "e" at the end of the word is not written. For example, the date July 3 in Ukrainian will sound like 3 linden. If you need to write the name of such a month in the context of indicating an event, you should put an "i" in the end. For example, the phrase "in August" is translated into Ukrainian as "in serpni".
