Step 1
Chemical soil treatment with drugs such as bleach, formalin and chloropicrin gives tangible results in the fight against insects, pathogens of fungal diseases of plants, but you need to be careful, as these chemicals can inhibit plant growth. Therefore, they should be processed in the fall. Formalin is used in the fight against black leg pathogens. Prepare a solution at the rate of one liter of 40% formalin per 100 liters of water. To process one meter of square soil, you will need twenty liters of solution. Chloropicrin is applied if the soil layer is twenty centimeters thick, at the rate of sixty grams per square meter. It is brought in in the autumn. Chlorine lime is applied in dry form one hundred grams per square meter of soil (with a layer of twenty centimeters) and covered with a rake. It is used against pathogens of bacterial and fungal diseases. They are introduced only in the fall, since bleach inhibits plant growth.
Step 2
Heat treatment of the soil increases its fertility, kills harmful insects and pathogens. A steam boiler can be used as a source of steam. The soil is steamed for an hour. The soil can also be placed on metal sheets and calcined, stirring constantly. Thus, the soil is prepared for planting indoor plants in pots. You can cultivate the ground with boiling water, but after that it will have to dry for a very long time.
Step 3
The biological method is the longest processing method. The contaminated and depleted soil is piled up in a pile one meter high and about three meters wide. It is laid in layers, alternating with slurry or feces. Slaked lime is added to acidic soil at the rate of four kilograms of lime per one cubic meter of land. It is left in stacks for two to three years. During this period, it is dug up twice, the weeds are removed. During this time, harmful bacteria and pests die in the stacks. But, if you need to disinfect the soil from white rot and keel, it must be kept in stacks for at least four years.
