This institution was established on March 5, 2009 as a result of a long process of exchange of relevant notices and notes between all parties involved in the negotiations - Georgia, Russia and Switzerland, which acted as a kind of moderator of the negotiations. As a result, it must be stated that the Section of Georgia's Interests in Russia after the conflict between our countries with the assistance of the Swiss Embassy in the Russian Federation. The official name given to the newly created institution was “Embassy of Switzerland in the Russian Federation, Section of the Interests of Georgia”.
In order to maintain the parity of interests of the countries involved in the negotiations, the Swiss Embassy in the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi - opened a Section for the interests of the Russian Federation in this city. This institution today occupies the building of the former Russian Embassy in Tbilisi.
