High-quality gold jewelry retains its excellent appearance for a very long time. However, from time to time they still need cleaning. How to put them in order so as not to damage the surface of the metal and preserve the shine of the stones?

It is necessary

  • - soft suede and flannel rags;
  • - shampoo or dishwashing detergent;
  • - ammonia;
  • - vodka or cologne;
  • - cotton swabs.

Instructions

Step 1

If your rings with stones seem to be losing their original shine, try polishing them with a dry suede cloth. This is usually sufficient for new products.

Step 2

Minor dirt can be removed by soaking the ring in soapy water for several hours. Dissolve a little mild shampoo or dishwashing liquid in warm water, place the ring in the container with the solution. After a few hours, remove the jewelry, wipe it with a soft flannel. If you are not satisfied with the result, the procedure can be repeated.

Step 3

Do not try to brush off dirt with a hard brush or abrasive paste - you could scratch the metal. Mechanical impact is especially harmful for a gilded product - the top coating can be simply wiped off.

Step 4

Darkened gold rings can be freshened up with onion juice. Cut open the onion and rub the cut over the surface of the decoration. Leave it on for a couple of hours, and then polish the ring with a soft flannel.

Step 5

The surface under the stone can be cleaned with cotton swabs. Dip a stick with vodka or cologne and wipe the area around the stone from the outside and inside of the ring. Never try to remove dirt with a needle, scissors or other sharp objects - you may ruin the ring. If the dirt cannot be removed, soak the jewelry in soapy water and repeat the procedure again.

Step 6

Tarnished rings can be freshened up with ammonia. Prepare a soapy solution, add ammonia (at the rate of 3 drops to half a glass of solution) and rinse the ring. Wipe it dry and buff with a suede cloth. For prevention, the procedure should be repeated at least once a month.

Step 7

If you are not satisfied with the home cleaning result, contact your jeweler. It can professionally polish your ring by removing stains and scratches from the metal.
