In 1998, the State Automobile Inspectorate was renamed into the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate - the State Inspectorate for Road Safety (however, you can still use the old name "GAI"). The structure of the traffic police includes several services and divisions. These include the road patrol service, the technical inspection and registration service, the road inspection and traffic organization service, the units that issue driver's licenses and the units that are entrusted with the tasks of ensuring traffic safety on special highways.
Tasks of the road patrol service
The main functions of the road patrol service are caring for the safety of road users, ensuring traffic on highways, fighting offenses and crimes on the road. It is thanks to the road patrol service that order is maintained on Russian roads.
Tasks of the road inspection and traffic management service
The road inspection and traffic management service is responsible for the development and monitoring of the road network. Its employees are engaged in the design and construction of new routes, repairs of old roads, installation of road signs, etc.
Tasks of the technical inspection and registration service
The main task of the technical inspection and registration service is to check the technical condition of cars. You must not let a "trough" out on the road, which can suddenly break and turn into a threat to road users. To prevent such cases, there is a technical inspection service.
Functions of the traffic police departments
The registration and examination departments of the traffic police are engaged in putting and removing cars from the register, issuing licenses, conducting exams for obtaining licenses, and also ensuring the disposal of vehicles.
The traffic police also includes other divisions - there are divisions for the search for vehicles, as well as divisions that ensure road safety on especially important highways - large highways and roads along which officials move, guarded by the FSO. Typically, such units are represented by special regiments of the traffic police.
