A hand drill is an almost indispensable tool for carrying out both repair and construction and gardening work. The garden hand drill is widely used in tree planting, post installation, foundation pile pouring and other earthworks. It is quite possible to make a manual drill with your own hands, and the financial costs for making a drill will be much lower than in the case of buying a finished tool.
Necessary
- - smooth fittings;
- - a piece of a gas pipe;
- - steel sheet;
- - drill;
- - welding machine;
- - lathe;
- - emery wheel.
Instructions
Step 1
Make a hand drill blade from the steel sheet. The diameter of each part should be approximately 5 mm larger than the diameter of the holes that you plan to drill with this drill. If desired, it is possible to manufacture several blades of different diameters.
Step 2
Drill a hole in the center of each workpiece. The diameter of this hole should be 1 mm larger than the diameter of the reinforcement that will be used as a hand drill stand.
Step 3
Turn the steel bushings on a lathe. Drill two radial holes in the sleeves. Thread the holes in these holes. This thread is required to bolt the blades of the hand drill to the rack.
Step 4
Cut a small sector out of the drill blade blank using a cut-off wheel. Stretch the outer ends of this cut to form a helical surface. Sharpen the underside of the cutout at a 45-60 degree angle. The drill blade is ready.
Step 5
Make about 3mm deep flats on the drill stand. The flats are made with an emery wheel, at a distance of 8-10 cm from the end of the rack.
Step 6
Sharpen the lower end of the rack at a 25-30 degree angle. Form spiral grooves at the lower end of the strut using a cut-off wheel.
Step 7
Weld a metal drill of a suitable diameter to the end of the rack. This drill will make it easier for your drill to enter tightly packed soil.
Step 8
Attach the detachable handle to the drill post. The handle is fixed to the stand with a bushing. Make additional strut elbows from the same reinforcement. If you need to drill deeper, you can remove the handle and extend the stand with additional elbows and reducer sleeves.
