Experts recommend using a masking net during filling and other finishing work. This material is able to strengthen the surface and increase the life of the finish.
What is a paint net?
The painting grid is also called "serpyanka". It is a fabric with a mesh of 2x2 mm (or more), made of fiberglass impregnated with a compound resistant to alkalization. Outwardly, serpyanka resembles a bandage or gauze. This material is used as a reinforcing material for filling and plastering walls. It can be glued to any surface: brickwork, concrete, drywall, fiberboard, chipboard, OSB, etc. The painting mesh is non-toxic, moisture and frost resistant, has extremely low flammability. These properties of serpyanka make it possible to use it in external and internal works.
The quality index of the mesh is its tensile strength. This characteristic is determined by the size of the serpentine mesh and the thickness of the fiberglass from which it is made. You can buy it at any store that sells building materials.
How and where is the paint net used?
During finishing work, there is always a need to strengthen the plaster layer. For this, a masking net is used. It should be located between the layers of mortar, with which the wall is leveled.
The use of a serpyanka is mandatory in the following cases: when finishing window and door openings; when sealing wide and deep cracks; at the junction of the canvases of the material from which the walls are made (for example, drywall); in the corners; if in the composition of the cement-sand mortar there is an excess of sand or cement, the grade of which is lower than the required one; if there is high humidity in the room. The painting mesh will improve the adhesion of the layers of the finishing solution, take on part of the load, and increase the strength of the covering material.
Depending on the size of the cells, the characteristics and scope of the serpyanka may vary. It can be used when laying tiles, performing thermal insulation works, to strengthen weak surfaces during restoration, when reinforcing floor coverings, and in installing a roof.
Serpyanka is laid in two ways. If the strength of the base allows, the masking tape is glued to PVA glue (or any other moisture-resistant composition), stretched, straightened. After the adhesive layer has dried, a layer of plaster is applied over the serpyanka. It is noticed that it lays down more evenly on the paint grid.
When performing putty or plastering work, the serpyanka is attached to a previously applied layer of mortar. The fiberglass tape should be slightly sunk into it, but not in contact with the base of the wall. If you need to make a thick plaster layer (for example, when leveling the surface), it is recommended to lay several layers of serpyanka.
