Shipbuilding is one of the oldest industries. Its story begins with the first boats and rafts, hollowed out of solid tree trunks, and continues to modern rocket ships and liners.
The emergence of shipbuilding is due to the development of trade relations between peoples separated by water spaces. It was during this period that the first ships appeared, which moved with the help of oars, and the sail was used as an auxiliary force very rarely. In all groups of the Slavic language there is the word "ship" (from the word "bark"). Ancient Russian ships were made of rods and sheathed with bark. Already in the 18th century, the Russians crossed the Caspian Sea, and in the 19th century they became full-fledged masters of the Black Sea. In the XII century, deck ships were built, intended for sea battles. They housed warriors and oarsmen on their decks. The appearance of sailing ships contributed to the expansion of navigation areas and led to an era of great geographical discoveries. Only in the course of several decades did the Spanish fleet visit all regions of the World Ocean. In Russia, a regular fleet was founded during the reign of Peter I, for whom the possibility of free access to the seas was a paramount task. It was on its implementation that the further development of the state depended. Today, the strategic goal of the ships is to create and maintain a calm environment on the waterways and adjacent continental regions, which will help to ensure the protection of national interests and the country's security in all spheres. In the event of hostilities, the role of the fleet is reduced to maximum contribution to the actions of the Armed Forces to quickly eliminate aggression against the state and its allies on the most favorable terms. Now shipbuilding is one of the most important industries supported by the state. It has a great influence on the country's political position in the world, on its defense capability and economy.
