Speech defects such as lisp, burr (rotacism) and nasal speech are considered a cosmetic problem, so few adults come to a speech therapist with this. Unless this feature of speech begins to harm a career, spoil relationships with lovers, or a person just wants to please someone, but fears that a speech defect will prevent him from doing so.

Step 1
In an adult, the increased tone of the muscles of the pharynx and tongue persisted for years, so long and monotonous work would be required to tighten the muscles. At the same time, consulting a speech therapist is not superfluous, since he will help you choose an individual set of phrases, phrases and tongue twisters for speech training.
Step 2
If you lisp, check nasal breathing, because it is often because of difficult or impossible nasal breathing that a small person gets used to breathing through the mouth, the tongue flattens, protrudes out of the mouth, and the sound "s" is replaced by "sh" when pronounced.
Step 3
When pronouncing the words where you lisp, pay attention to the position of the tongue: it should neither protrude beyond the teeth, nor be between them. Its correct position when pronouncing the sound "s" is slightly behind the front teeth.
Step 4
For any textbook of the Russian language or a book on speech therapy, study the features of the articulation of sounds.
Step 5
Check in front of a mirror, in what exactly the position of your speech organs when pronouncing sounds that are difficult for you differs from the correct one, and correct.
Step 6
Practice pronunciation first mentally, then in a whisper, then loudly.
Step 7
Do tongue exercises. For burr (to train the lift of the tongue and strengthen the muscles of its tip). - "Teeth cleaning": depict a wide smile and the tip of the tongue first go over the upper teeth from the inside, then along the lower ones. Move the tip of your tongue from side to side, touching both the anterior and posterior teeth (the jaw is still). The tempo is slow at first, then accelerate - and so alternate.
- "Horse": depict a wide smile and, similarly to how a horse claps its hooves, learn to clap its tongue, making it click, but not smack. Avoid curling your tongue inward.
Step 8
For the lisp (to achieve a relaxed tongue). - "Naughty tongue." Opening your mouth slightly, extend and put your tongue on your lower lip. Then, slapping your lips on the tongue, say "la-la-la." At the same time, make sure that the tongue touches the corners of the mouth, and the lower lip does not tuck.
- "Licking": slightly opening your mouth, make the front edge of your tongue licking movements of the upper lip from top to bottom. This is an exercise for giving the tongue a "cup" shape when pronouncing sibilant sounds. Work only with your tongue, the lower jaw is motionless.
Step 9
In the event that you are your own doctor and decided to do without a speech therapist at all, then when choosing speech material, be guided by the basic principles of sound automation: - achieve a clear fixation of sounds in an isolated sound, better in a singsong voice;
- then, in separate syllables, words and short phrases;
- then - in complex words containing a combination of consonants, more complex phrases, tongue twisters. Do not move from one stage to the next without achieving lasting good results.
Step 10
Use voice recordings of your exercises to check your pronunciation and pronunciation.
Step 11
A speech defect is not at all a sign of individuality, as many try to imagine. Somewhere these are the shortcomings of the parents, but somewhere your own laziness. To think that a speech defect can be almost an ornament means, at the very least, Napoleon's syndrome. If a speech defect can be corrected, then it is quite obvious that this needs to be done, especially if it interferes with your life and in some way infringes.
