Every year in cities on lawns and courtyards, housing and public utilities workers and janitors mow the grass. Along the roads, on city sites, in parks and squares, this work is carried out by workers of the city's green space services.
Some people wonder why the city needs to mow the grass. There can be several answers here: the grass is mowed according to the order and the rules; for the prevention of tick-borne encephalitis and other diseases carried by ticks; because they pay well for it and, finally, because it is so beautiful.
Lawful mowing of grass
If we consider the legal reason for shortening the grass in the summer, we must remember that there is such a document as "Rules for the creation, protection and maintenance of green spaces in the cities of the Russian Federation", approved by order of the State Construction Committee of the Russian Federation No. 153. According to this document, housing and communal services workers must take care of green spaces in the city: sow, sow, water, fertilize, mow, sod damaged areas, pierce the ground for aeration, plant shrubs and flowers.
Lawns should be mowed when the grass is higher than 10 cm, and it is necessary to leave 3-5 cm. Housing and communal services workers are required to mow the grass every 15 -20 days. At the same time, the territory of forest parks and meadows does not fall under these rules. In fact, in fact, no work on the maintenance of green spaces, except for mowing the grass, is carried out, either due to a lack of funds, or for the reason that mowing is an expensive job in comparison with other maintenance work.
Mowing grass for human health and aesthetics
The second important reason is that in many regions of Russia ixodid ticks are widespread - carriers of encephalitis, borreliosis and other dangerous diseases. Tick females are very active in spring and summer. Tick bites in yards and playgrounds are quite frequent. A person who is seriously injured by a tick bite in the yard can sue housing and communal services workers and win the case if the grass was not cut on time.
Ticks bite not only people, but also pets, which can bring them into the house from an unmown lawn.
The third reason to mow grass is aesthetic. A site with neatly mowed dense grass looks much more attractive and better overgrown with weeds.
The city with well-groomed lawns, roadside green areas, flowers and trimmed shrubs seems to the guests more comfortable and hospitable.
Russian lawns are now, of course, far from English, but in England it was once different. In a hundred years, the same neat and clean herbaceous plantings may appear in Russia.
