Within the boundaries of one of the largest Turkish metropolises, it is planned to build a city with a population of about 1 million people. The Kayasehir district, located near the European side of Istanbul, will be the core of the new city.
Planning for the new city has already begun. The ultimate goal of the project is to populate about a million inhabitants. The country's authorities expect to move towards the implementation of this idea gradually. The settlement of the new city will take place over a fairly long period of time. At first, it is planned to accommodate 500 thousand people, then this number will gradually increase to 700 thousand inhabitants, and only after a while the number of the urban population here will reach one million.
The construction of a new city in Turkey is linked to the government's desire to create a safe place for people living in potentially hazardous areas. Almost 50% of the total number of buildings located in Istanbul, according to experts, are located in hazardous areas and are subject to frequent exposure to natural disasters. For this reason, up to two hundred people die in Istanbul every year.
The areas from which people will move to the new city will undergo various transformations, taking into account possible natural disasters. After their reconstruction, those residents who themselves will be able to return to their native places.
The construction of the new city is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2013. According to the Minister of Urban Planning of Turkey Erdogan Bayraktar, the work will be carried out using the most modern technologies, which will allow the city to be built in record time. In addition to residential buildings, the city will have shops, hospitals, schools, a developed transport network and several large business centers.
It is planned to create a modern infrastructure for a comfortable tourist rest in the new city: three large hotels will be built, parks, beaches, etc. will be created. The construction of a new city and resettlement of old areas, according to experts, will cost about two billion dollars.
