Dugout - a dwelling deepened into the ground, rectangular or otherwise, with a wooden floor covered with earth. This is one of the oldest types of insulated housing on our planet.
For construction, we need to have: wooden lining, beams, floor boards (if they are installed), chipboards (chipboard), roofing material, sheet polystyrene (for insulation), nails, a door, a window. It is necessary to make a drawing of the dugout. Its shape can be rectangular, square or otherwise. It is essential that the supporting beams are installed correctly.
Before starting excavation work, it is required to make markings on the ground. On the ground, the perimeter of the future structure should be noted. It is necessary to drive in pegs in the corners, and pull a cord (rope, thread) between them. An important point is the careful removal of the sod from the ground.
Pit for a dugout
It needs to be dug to a depth of 1 meter 70 centimeters. This size is necessary to ensure a good flatness of the roof slope, as well as for lower costs of building materials. The turf will hold better on such a roof. You will need to dig a descent to the door and window.
Building walls
Walls need to be built. They will need to be made with roofing material (you can use the lining) so that the soil does not crumble from the walls. In the corners of the future dugout (to a depth of 0.5 meters), beams are dug in, while it is necessary to leave a small distance between them and the wall. Floor boards are mounted between them, then door and window frames are installed.
It is necessary to additionally install 3 more pillars (beams), the bases of which are buried to a depth of 0.5 m, and their upper parts will rise above ground level to the same height. They will run along the centerline of the dugout. Two pillars should be installed near the walls, and the third in the center of the room. From above, they are interconnected by beams.
Roof, floor construction and finishing works
Now you need to start building the roof. For this, logs are constructed using a bar. Next, sheathing is done with clapboard, which is covered with roofing felt. The sod is laid on it. It is very heavy, so the logs must be able to withstand that kind of load.
The ceiling must be made using roofing material and lining. In order to insulate the dugout, it is necessary to install foam sheets on the walls and ceiling. For the device of the floor, you can put roofing material on the ground or build wooden logs, to which you can attach chipboard sheets. The final stage will be the installation of the door and window.
