Old antiques have a special charm and charm, but not everyone has "grandmother's" furniture, and a real "antique" is very expensive. There is a fairly simple way out of this situation - you need to artificially age your furniture. It will not take much time and effort, and the purchase of materials that will be needed for work will not hit your wallet hard.
Necessary
- - emery cloth;
- - soil;
- - acrylic paint;
- - candle;
- - varnish for craquelure;
- - metal brush.
Instructions
Step 1
For aging, things made of wood, ceramics, brass, glass and wrought metal are well suited. Add a touch of antiquity to wood furniture. Take the item, dust it off and sand the paint and varnish. It is better to take a large emery cloth, you can work with it faster. Brush off any debris from the surface and clean the work area to prevent old paint particles from sticking to new layers.
Step 2
Cover the thing with a primer, a mixture of PVA glue with white acrylic enamel is suitable. Let the surface dry. Then paint the piece of furniture with brown acrylic paint. Apply two coats of this product. Let the paint dry overnight.
Step 3
Rub all the edges and corners of the piece with paraffin or candle wax. Choose the color of your future "antique" furniture. Looks good in soft pink or ivory. Create your own color by mixing white paint with color scheme. A few drops added to the jar should be sufficient.
Step 4
The brown base should be completely hidden under the layers of new paint, these layers can be from two to four. Remember to dry each layer well.
Step 5
Use an 800 grit sandpaper. Sand the areas that you rubbed with the candle. The base paint will wear off and reveal brown. Rub gently so that there are no "burrs". For greater reliability, work unevenly, rub harder somewhere, in other places make only a hint of abrasion.
Step 6
Remove dust from the surface with a soft brush. If you want to further decorate your furniture, cut out floral patterns from napkins and stick them on the chosen place. Then cover the entire piece with a matte varnish. This technique is called shabby chic.
Step 7
Try brushing the furniture to age. Brush the surface with a metal brush, it will remove soft wood grain and highlight its texture vividly. Apply a layer of paint, its color should be dark. Without waiting for the product to dry, rub it deep into the pores and cracks of the wood. The entire structure of the wood will be clearly visible. You can take varnish for finishing with different effects - metallic, mother-of-pearl.
Step 8
Things aged using the crackle technique look spectacular. Apply new paint to the furniture, and after a few minutes, apply a crack-creating agent (craquelure). It can be a two-component varnish or paint. When working with them, follow the instructions clearly, since there is no single recommendation for different products.
