Step 1
Just read the poem first. Try to fully understand what the author wanted to say. You don't need to carefully analyze each line, just understand your own impressions. You can even transfer them to paper to make it easier to express. It is also worth remembering the main points that seemed to you the most attractive and unusual.

Read the poem again, but now much more slowly. Read each word carefully, think about why it was used. If you do not understand the meaning of certain sentences, you can use the Internet to better understand the meaning. It is also recommended to read the analysis of the entire poem for a better comprehension of the read text.
Step 3
Try to represent as fully as possible everything that the author writes about. If he tells a story, imagine all the actions that the main characters perform. Try to use as much imagination as possible: what kind of wind is blowing, what is the weather outside, you can even imagine smells. When it comes to feelings, try to transfer them to yourself. For example, if a poet writes about love, imagine how you say these words to your loved one.

Then start actively memorizing the text. If you follow the previous steps diligently, this step will not cause you certain difficulties. You can memorize one stanza at a time, or you can choose other step-by-step options. There is a technique according to which the verse after previous readings should be closed in half, but not horizontally, but vertically. For example, only the first words are missing in each line.

Retell the poem with and without prompts. After the work is memorized, read it aloud from memory. In the beginning, you can pry into the text, there is nothing criminal about it. However, after the difficulties in reproduction become less, try to completely get rid of any prompts. Remember that you memorize much faster when you try to remember a word, not when you quickly find the answer.

Repeat the poem at regular intervals. They say that in order to remember any information forever, it must be repeated 5 times: immediately after memorizing, the next day, after a week, after a month and after three months.
