There are two types of disc brakes on a bicycle: hydraulic and mechanical. Each of these types of brakes must be properly adjusted. Only then will they ensure shorter braking distances and the safety of the cyclist.

It is necessary

Hex keys, screwdriver, wrench set

Instructions

Step 1

To adjust the hydraulic system, place the rotor on the wheel hub and tighten with the cam bolts. Screw on the adapter, preferably using a thread lock. When screwing on the caliper, do not tighten the hex so that it floats. Squeeze the brake lever and make sure the pads extend the same distance. After the rotor is clamped, the caliper will snap into place by itself, verify this by jerking the wheel, trying to turn it in both directions. Only then tighten the caliper mounting bolts evenly.

Step 2

Bring the brake pads to the rotor at the working distance. To do this, press the brakes sharply 20-30 times. Then spin the wheel. In the event that the rotor rubs against the pad, loosen the caliper and slide it slightly towards this pad. If rubbing on both pads, unscrew the hex on the brake lever slightly. Tighten all bolts and check the brakes.

Step 3

To adjust mechanical brakes, place the rotor on the hub and the wheel in place by bolting it in place. Screw on the adapter, locking the threads. Fasten the caliper not completely, but as in the previous paragraph. Then, push the fixed block out by half a turn of the adjusting screw.

Step 4

Press down on the caliper with your finger so that the surface of the inner pad is aligned with the plane of the rotor. Tighten the caliper mounting bolts one at a time, while the plane of the pad should not become at an angle. Tighten both hex wrenches and back off the adjusting bolt half a turn. We spin the wheel and check the gaps between the pads and the rotor visually and soundly.

Step 5

If the rotor rubs, move the shoe away from the rotor with the adjusting bolt. If the brakes are not squeezed out normally, use the same bolt to move the shoe to the rotor, but make sure that there is no contact between them. Rotate the lever to which the cable is attached while pressing the block that moves. In this case, the rotor should be slightly displaced to the fixed block. Install the jacket and cable so that the outer shoe is pressed in. Tighten the cable fixing, if after that the pads rub, adjust their downforce with the bolt on the handle.
