Many people prefer to do small carpentry work at home or in the country with their own hands. This allows you not only to relax and give free rein to your own imagination, but also to save money from the family budget. However, when working with wood, you need tools at hand. For example, a planer. You can also design it yourself.

Necessary

Iron bars, welding machine, boards, sandpaper, tools, drawing accessories

Instructions

Step 1

Take drawing supplies. First, sketch out a rough drawing of the future machine on a piece of paper. Decide on the size and function that it should perform. Choose the dimensions based on your own requirements. It is not necessary to design a large machine for home needs. Also think about where he will stand. The planer is a very heavy and bulky structure, so you need to choose a place at the very beginning where you can screw the legs to the floor. This is necessary so that during use the machine does not move from vibrations.

Step 2

Draw an exact drawing from the sketch. It should reflect all the design features, as well as the exact dimensions of each part. Make a drawing in two versions - rough and final. Carefully check the correctness of the drawing in order to avoid mistakes in manufacturing and not to spoil the material.

Step 3

The main frame of the machine is best made from steel beams. They need to be welded together. A crosshair must be welded between the two parallel beams. This will give the structure additional rigidity and strength. Also, do not forget about the additional stiffeners for mounting the motor and saw. The cooled beams must be sanded. Then apply a thin layer of primer to them. Let the surface dry. Paint the structure with waterproof paint.

Step 4

Lay some thick planks on top. Fasten them with bolts and nuts. Apply grease to the bolts before tightening. Make a careful cut between the boards in the place where the saw blade will stand. Sand the surface of the boards thoroughly. There should not be large gaps between the boards. If desired, you can make an additional device for screwing a steel vise or a small anvil.

Step 5

Install the saw blade drive. Tighten the mounting bolts carefully. Check that the blade guides are in the exact center of the cut. Check the operation of the mechanism that guides the boards under the disc. Install an electric or diesel motor in the frame, connect it to the drive. If the motor is electric, carefully mask the electrical wire. If you are using a diesel engine, then take care of a special pipe through which the exhaust gases will come out. Switch on the assembled machine and check its functionality.
