Despite the ubiquity of electronic watches, mechanical watches are unlikely to ever completely go out of fashion. A good mechanical wristwatch gives the impression of solidity and respectability. True, they need to be turned on regularly, and in some cases - to bring the arrows.

Step 1
Check the watch upon purchase. Mechanical watches are sometimes somewhat inferior in accuracy to electronic ones, but they do not depend on the source of electricity. In any case, you will have to set the exact time, which means - translate the arrows.
Step 2
Classic wrist mechanical watches usually have a crown on the case, which is used to translate the hands. When it is firmly pressed against the case, the watch is wound with its help. To set the time, the crown must be pulled up. In some watch models, it rises quite easily, you just have to take it with your thumb and forefinger and pull it away from the case. Pry off the head of a miniature ladies watch with a fingernail or a small thin metal plate. Sometimes they come with a watch.
Step 3
Turn the crown gently. You will see that the hands have started to rotate, and the minute is doing it faster than the hour. For most watches, the crown can be rotated both clockwise and counterclockwise. Usually choose the direction where you want to make fewer revolutions. Do not forget that in a mechanical watch, moving parts are constantly in contact with each other, and this affects the strength of the entire structure. On some models, the head can only move in one direction. If you are faced with the fact that it does not want to rotate counterclockwise, do not be too persistent and do not try to turn it at any cost.
Step 4
After setting the exact time using an electronic clock or radio, lower the crown. To do this, you just need to gently press on it so that it snuggles against the body. Start your watch. Avoid sudden movements. Even solid-looking mechanical watches don't like jerks. In the depressed position, the head usually moves in only one direction - clockwise. It is recommended to wind the mechanical watch all the way. Exactly the same mechanism for shifting the hands is found in classic pocket watches. The head on them is most often under the loop to which the chain is attached.
Step 5
An elegant retro-style interior requires appropriate additions. In this case, at least one mechanical wall or table clock is required. For table clocks, the screws for winding and shifting the hands are usually located on the back wall. There may be one such screw or two. If you have a mechanical alarm clock, a bell should be drawn near one of the screws. With it, you can set an alarm at the desired time.
Step 6
For some mechanical table clocks, the hands are adjusted in the same way as for manual clocks. That is, you need to slightly pull back the screw intended for winding the watch and turn it so that the hands are in the desired position. In other watches, the screw, on the contrary, is pressed against the case. The second option is less common.
Step 7
The hands of mechanical wall clocks are very often brought down simply by hands from the side of the dial. This method is used if the glass is easily removed or not at all. Lead the arrows calmly and without jerking. Such a watch is wound most often with the help of a key, the well for which is located on the dial.
