The world of wildlife is rich in amazing plants, unlike their usual green counterparts. Some are eaten, others are poisonous to humans, and some of them are amazing in their unusual appearance.
Breadfruit - a plant from fairy tales
In the legends and tales of many peoples, you can hear the legend of the cherished land, where you do not need to take care of food, and bread grows right on the trees. It is possible that these stories have a real background. An amazing tree grows in the tropics, the fruits of which are similar to an oblong melon. When the local tribes are hungry, they simply pierce the fruit of the tree and leave it overnight. As a result, the pulp ferments and by the morning turns into a kind of dough, from which cakes are baked. Also, the fruits can be eaten raw, baked and fried. The seeds are also used for food.
Rafflesia - a flower with an unusual smell
Rafflesia is an amazing plant that is a giant red flower with white spots and a deep hole in the middle. Its diameter can be up to two meters. It is logical to assume that such a flower could exude a fabulous fragrance that can be heard throughout the forest. However, rafflesia is not for nothing considered one of the most unusual plants - it smells of the terrifying stench of rotten meat. What for? This scent attracts flies - the main pollinators of the flower.
In addition to flies, elephants help reproduce rafflesia. Large spores of this flower adhere to the soles of the elephant and spread throughout the forest.
The dancing plant lives up to its name
This plant was called dancing for a reason. It really knows how to move. At first glance, this dwarf shrub is a common green plant with three-leafed inflorescences. However, when sunlight hits it, the side leaves begin to slowly rotate around their axis. From the side it seems that the bush is moving to invisible music. However, there is nothing magical about the rotation of the leaves - it is associated with a change in the moisture pressure in the petioles.
Locals call the dancing plant “forest curmudgeon”.
Rainbow eucalyptus is a pop art lover's dream
This tree is no different from ordinary eucalyptus, except for the unusual color of the trunk. The bark of the tree is colored green, blue, burgundy and orange. One gets the impression that some crazy artist has painted the forest in all the colors of the rainbow. This effect is achieved due to the fact that the bark is constantly renewed. Initially, it is green, and later takes on one of the shades of the rainbow. A new layer is formed under the old bark, which becomes visible through the cracks, then another layer grows and another - so on to infinity. The combination of old and new bark shades creates such an unusual effect.
