The bear is the most dangerous predator of the taiga. Its weight reaches 600 kg, and with a blow of its clawed paw, it is able to break the skull even of an adult elk. It is best to avoid meeting this animal, and if this has not been done, be sure to control your behavior.
How to prevent meeting a bear
Recently, hunters have begun to notice changes in the behavior of brown bears. Many of them have ceased to be afraid of a person, as they have already become accustomed to him. Tourists are increasingly wandering into the depths of the taiga and catch the eye of the bear.
To avoid meeting a dangerous predator, try to be as quiet as possible in the camp. Bears are not discouraged by the smell of fire and gasoline - these are all myths that cost the lives of dozens of careless tourists. Do not take various smoked meats with you, as their smell can easily lure a predator. Keep the camp clean: The bear loves to feast on garbage. It is best to store food in containers that are suspended from a tree so that an intruder cannot reach them. Never feed cubs.
Bears only have 7 months of the year to accumulate enough fat during their hibernation. In spring and summer, they are especially active in looking for food during the daytime. During the period of mass spawning of salmon, their activity shifts to the morning and evening hours. If there are not enough fish, the bear can feed on berry fields and mountain meadows. In this case, it will be active all day.
Do not pitch your tent near the path, especially if you smell dead game. Bears' caches are located in such places. If he sees you next to his "stash", he will definitely attack, thinking that you want to steal it.
The offspring of the bear appears in January-February. During this period, as well as in the spring, you need to be especially careful: the mother becomes very aggressive. She will immediately attack tourists if they stand between her and her cubs.
If the meeting with the bear took place
When facing the bear, stay calm. Do not try to run away from him - this animal is capable of speeds up to 60 km / h. It is a very fast and agile predator, albeit a large one. Let him know that you see him, do not make sudden movements. Remove your backpack, carefully place it in front of you, and slowly step back. He will definitely start sniffing at him and, perhaps, you will be able to hide.
If he's moving towards you anyway, you need to do something unexpected to scare him. The main thing is not to be afraid. The bear is very curious by nature. Maybe he's not going to attack you. Wave your arms, shout, raise the stick above your head. Bears are instinctively afraid of anyone above them.
If the bear growls and digs the ground, he is going to attack. In this case, you should have a gun, traumatic pistol or even firecrackers with you. Fire a couple of shots into the air. The main thing is to make a noise so that the bear gets scared and runs away.
