The ground loop is an important element in protecting a person from electric shock, and equipment from failures and breakdowns. The device of the grounding loop is not difficult work. It is quite possible to make such a contour in your suburban area with your own hands.

Necessary

  • - shovel;
  • - sledgehammer;
  • - welding machine;
  • - electrodes;
  • - metal strip 6x50 mm;
  • - bituminous mastic

Instructions

Step 1

Calculate the ground loop. For the correct calculation of the ground loop, you need to know the value of the soil resistance in your area. For an accurate calculation, you can use a special computer program or formulas that take into account many input parameters. You can find such formulas in specialized literature.

Step 2

Select a location for the ground loop. It should be noted that it is necessary to position the contour at a distance of at least one meter from the foundation of the house, in a little-visited place.

Step 3

Prepare the electrodes. It is recommended to use steel corners with a length of 2.5-3 m and a width of at least 50 mm as electrodes.

Step 4

Dig a triangular or square trench with a depth of 0.8-1 m. It should be noted that the distance between the electrodes should be equal to the length of these electrodes.

Step 5

Use a sledgehammer to hammer the electrodes into the corners of the trench.

Step 6

Take a metal strip and weld it to all the electrode pins driven into the ground. It is recommended to weld the strip on both sides of the corner. Check weld quality. Carefully treat the weld joints with bitumen mastic or other anti-corrosion compound.

Step 7

Pull the strip up to the lead-in shield and attach the grounding bar to it. If this is not possible, it is recommended to attach a copper wire with a cross section of at least 10 sq. Mm to the strip. You can attach the wire using a bolt, washer and nut. Carefully treat the junction of the wire with the strip with an anti-corrosion compound.

Step 8

Dig a trench and compact the soil thoroughly.
