In some situations, there is an urgent need to braid a loop on the cable - when lowering a submersible pump, to make a tow cable, an antenna stretch, etc. Tie a knot from a steel cable will not work due to its rigidity. Well, the loop at the end of the cable can be made very neat.

Necessary

  • - steel cable Ø 8-9 mm;
  • - flat screwdriver;
  • - heavy metal base (rail, sledgehammer, etc.);
  • - a hammer;
  • - Bulgarian.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut off the end of the loose cable exactly. Place it on a massive metal base and hit the same place several times with the sharp end of a hammer. You can use a grinder for this. As a result, you should have an even, without kinks, neatly cut end of the cable.

Step 2

Unwind the cable approximately 60-80 cm. Using a screwdriver, divide the cable in two thicknesses. With a 7-strand cable, there will be 4 strands in one part, and 3 strands in the second. Wrap both pieces of the rope around each other. Make a loop at the end of the cable about ~ 10 cm. At the same time, take into account the reduction in the diameter of the loop of the steel cable by the size of its thickness during the braiding process. To form a loop on the cable, bend the main 4-strand part of the cable towards the 3-strand part. Place the second part of the cable in the grooves of the main part of the metal cable.

Step 3

Wrap the remaining ends of the braided two strands alternately around the so-called cutting. Next, wrap each of the 4 free strands alternately around the cutting, then weave this strand into a loop and wrap it around the cutting again. To securely terminate the loop at the end of the cable, ensure that each strand passes through the loop in the opposite direction with respect to the previous strand.

Step 4

Cover the ends of the previous strands with the subsequent ones until you have two strands free in your hands. Use a screwdriver to gently push them between the strands of the steel cable loop. Cover this area with electrical tape. Or seal them into flattened tubes. This will hide the ends of the cable and make the loop on the cable less traumatic.
