Choosing a door peephole

Before you buy a peephole, as well as when choosing and installing it, you should be guided by the safety and conditions of maximum view of the site, taking into account the material of the entrance door itself. Dear peepholes with a maximum viewing level have a 180-degree angle, which allows you to see the area right down to the rug under your door. The panoramic viewing angle of the cheaper options is about 120 degrees and does not give any particular advantages either in efficiency or in the quality of viewing the site.

Today, video eyes with a built-in camera connected to a computer or laptop like a standard webcam are quite popular.

If you are going to buy and install a door peephole yourself, do not forget to take into account the thickness of your door leaf. You can easily choose the length of the eyelet body and its diameter from a wide range. Remember that the length of the eye can be additionally adjusted by means of the threads on its body.

Traditionally, door eyes are made of plastic and metal, while their optics are glass and polymer (as well as plastic). The advantages of glass optics lie in a better image quality, resistance to mechanical damage (scratches and dust), as well as in the absence of clouding.

The eyes, the most optimal in terms of their qualities and characteristics, have a metal body and glass optics, but their cost is higher than that of budget models of door eyes.

Door installation

Installation of a peephole in the door is carried out taking into account the height of the owner of the apartment. It is necessary to mark the center on the door, based on the desired height, and mark the resulting mark with an awl - so the drill will not slip. Also, before marking the installation site, glue a strip of adhesive masking tape on the selected area of the door leaf. Now you can place notches without fear of ruining the door lining.

To prevent chips from forming in the door when drilling, the marking of the future hole is performed on both sides of the door.

Having chosen the diameter of the drill (slightly larger than the diameter of the threaded element of the peephole), start drilling the marked holes on each side of the door, plunging the drill into half the thickness of the door leaf. Unscrew the peephole and install the male thread on the outside and the female thread on the inside. After the holes are drilled, screw the peephole into the door, tighten it with the splines and enjoy a safe view of the staircase.
