The installation of road signs is clearly regulated by GOST. This is understandable, because an incorrectly installed sign can lead to serious consequences: accidents, fatal accidents, etc. However, utilities often violate the rules for installing signs. This is due to non-compliant coverage and many other reasons. Nevertheless, it is necessary to know the rules for installing road signs - this can greatly facilitate your life on the road.
It is impossible to install road signs wherever you want. all installation sites must be clearly regulated and spelled out in special documents. In addition, road signs must necessarily satisfy a number of requirements in order to correctly signal drivers about the condition of the roadway, the permitted speed and potential obstacles on the road.
Principles for the installation of road signs
Road signs should be installed so that they can be seen by everyone - both drivers and pedestrians. After all, such signs are intended for all road users. They must not be covered with any advertising banners and streamers. After all, if the sign is indistinguishable or poorly visible, it will easily lead to an accident, because the driver may not notice that there is a pedestrian crossing ahead, an uneven surface, a speed limit, etc.
Road signs are usually installed on the right side next to the carriageway or directly above it. According to the standards, the visibility of the sign must be at least 100 m. In case of urgent need, for example, to repair the right side of the road, signs can also be installed on the left side of the road.
There are also restrictions on the installation of signs in height. So, for example, they can be hung at a height of 1.5 to 3 m and at a height of 6 m if it is located above the road. According to GOST, signs should be hung at the same height so that the driver does not have to be distracted while driving in search of all the necessary signals.
There are often situations when it is necessary to place several signs at once in one place. In this case, the distance between them on one pillar should be from 50 to 200 mm. At the same time, the priority hierarchy must be very clearly observed. First, priority signs should hang, then warning signs, then prescriptive signs, then signs of special instructions, then prohibiting, informational and last - service signs.
There are certain rules for the installation of road signals, depending on the terrain. So, for example, in settlements they should be hung at least 25 m from the intersection, and outside villages and other residential areas not less than 50 m from the intersection.
Temporary signs
Special attention should be paid to temporary road signs. After all, they are priority at the time of carrying out certain works on the road. Such signs temporarily cancel the effect of permanent ones. Also, temporary signs are placed in those areas where, due to snow, precipitation or other restrictions, visibility is limited and it is not possible to see permanent signs.
Such signs can be installed on both sides of the road. They are yellow information boards that are clearly visible even at night and in poor visibility conditions. By distance, they are installed, like stationary signs. But above the road, such information signs are not placed.
