The standardization of processes in any enterprise helps to reduce time and money, which positively affects operational efficiency. Retail companies are no exception. The result of analyzing the situation, fixing the developments at various retail outlets is the creation of merchandising standards.
Instructions
Step 1
Merchandising standards are needed to:
- when opening a new outlet, there was no need to re-create the rules for efficient display of goods that sell themselves. This allows you to quickly and successfully launch your store;
- training of new employees was faster and less costly;
- it was easier to carry out control over retail outlets, since there are uniform evaluation criteria.
Step 2
You can develop uniform standards both on your own and with the involvement of an external merchandising consultant. The best option is to single out one of the employees who works together with the consultant. At the same time, the employee of the enterprise helps the consultant understand the strategy of the organization, find out its target audience, and also shares with him the already existing developments. Based on this, the consultant shares his view of the situation from the outside, highlights the weaknesses of the company's marketing and suggests ways to improve them. The result of joint work is a document called a merchandising book.
Step 3
The structure of the document is as follows:
1. The theoretical part. It reflects the general foundations of merchandising and universal laws. The same section contains the main mistakes in the display and presentation of goods.
2. Rules. This section specifies the requirements for the design of the entrance lobby, the arrangement of goods in the hall; conditions for maintaining order on stands and shelves; the main provisions of the presentation of goods in the hall; rules for placing price tags.
3. Planogram. Layout scheme and linking of goods to a specific type of commercial equipment.
4. Requirements for the sanitary and hygienic state of the trading floor, for lighting.
5. Principles of window dressing and information stand.
Step 4
To make it convenient to work with the document, it is printed in the form of an A5 booklet for employees of the sales area and A4 format for the central office.
Step 5
For all their rigor, the rules should be applicable in stores with different architectural features. For this purpose, the booklet contains explanations, within which limits the staff of the outlet can independently make decisions.
