When buying a wristwatch, a person, as a rule, chooses between quartz and mechanical models. Devices of the first type are more popular, since they show the time more accurately, and also differ in a wide range of products.
How it works and the benefits of a quartz watch
The first quartz watch was made and offered to customers in 1961. The developers paid a lot of attention to the functionality of such products, and over time they became more and more perfect. A prime example of this is the Hewlett-Packard-branded model with a micro-calculator in 1978.
In a quartz watch, the oscillating system is based on a quartz crystal. The device is complemented by a power supply that vibrates the crystal continuously, while the electronics measure voltage fluctuations and measure seconds, each equal to a resonant frequency of 32768 Hz. The engine, in turn, receives electrical impulses and drives the wheel mechanism, which is responsible for the movement of the watch hands.
All quartz watches are battery operated. On average, the charge lasts 3-5 years, after which the battery needs to be changed. The cost of buying and replacing it directly depends on the features of a particular watch model and can vary on average from 60 to 500 rubles. After replacing the battery, the watch will run smoothly again for several years. At the same time, unlike mechanical ones, quartz models can be left on the shelf for a couple of months, and all this time they will continue to run.
Due to the accuracy of the supply of electrical impulses, the quartz watch runs correctly, and the error is on average no more than 20 seconds per month. It is enough to adjust the time shown by them only once every six months or even less often. However, it should be remembered that the quartz crystal, which is the basis of the system, "grows old" over time. As a result, the clock can start to rush, and sometimes quite dramatically.

It should be noted that, as a rule, electromechanical watches are called quartz. However, in fact, electronic devices supplemented with a digital display, as well as hybrid models, in which there are arrows and the function of displaying time on the screen, can also be attributed to the same type.
Electronic quartz watches are especially popular, because their design features allow making the thing very compact, easy to use and at the same time showing the time accurately. They are very often used by athletes, for whom every second counts during training and competition.
Some models of electromechanical quartz watches are complemented by another convenient function - an alarm clock. In such models there is a special wheel and an arrow that allow you to turn on a signal designed to wake up a person at a given time.
