Everyone is capable of getting lost in the forest. This can happen in an unfamiliar place, or where you are quite familiar with the terrain. What if such a nuisance befell you? How can you find a way out of the forest if you find it difficult to determine your location?

Instructions

Step 1

Realizing that you are lost and do not know where the exit to the road is, try not to panic. Calm down, look around and think. Try to remember from which side you came to this place, what noticeable natural objects or natural obstacles were in your path. It would be a big mistake to rush through the forest without any system - this way you can further aggravate your situation.

Step 2

If you were not alone in the forest, start shouting, calling your companions by name. Remember to pause and listen for feedback when you voice. If you clearly hear the answering voices, determine the direction towards them and begin to move towards this point, periodically giving a voice signal for those who are looking for you. Do not be alarmed if strangers come to your screams. It is possible that they can navigate the forest better than you and know where the exit is.

Step 3

Listen carefully to the sounds coming from the forest. If there is a road nearby, you can hear the noise of passing cars or pedestrian conversations. Do you know that there is a river in the area? Then be guided by the noise of the water or the coolness emanating from the reservoir. By getting out to the waterway, you can more easily determine the right direction for further movement. Rivers and lakes are often accessed by access roads used by fishermen and tourists.

Step 4

If you happen to get lost on a clear and sunny day, try to remember which side of you the sun was when you entered the forest. To return to about the same place, you need to turn in the opposite direction, taking into account, however, that the daylight shifts from left to right by about 15 degrees in an hour.

Step 5

When moving in the direction of the likely exit, leave noticeable traces along the way. These can be noticeable notches on tree trunks or strips of fabric left on branches. If you do not have any available tools with you, you can simply break tree branches at about the height of your growth. That way you can at least return to the starting point from which your quest began.

Step 6

When you smell smoke, start moving against the wind. In this way, you can get to the source of smoke, which could be a fire or someone's home. Pay attention to the presence of glades and power lines in the forest. On these linear objects you can go to the road or settlement.
