Fur dressing can be done independently and at home. If skins are made correctly and with high quality, in the future it will be possible to sew hats, vests and fur coats from them. And put a large shaggy luxurious bear skin in front of the sofa or near the fireplace.
Necessary
- - 25-30 liters of water;
- - 1 kg of flaked bran;
- - 1-2, 5 kg of non-iodized salt;
- - 2 containers with a capacity of 114 liters;
- - 1 container lid;
- - 1 wooden stick 1, 2 m long;
- - 3.5 cups of acid for car batteries;
- - 2 packs of baking soda;
- - wooden lattice or flooring;
- - hoof oil;
- - nails;
- - metal brush.
Instructions
Step 1
Thoroughly clean the raw skin from the remnants of meat. Allow the workpiece to cool, to do this, lay it out in the shade on an absolutely flat surface with the fur down. When the coat is cool, sprinkle the inside of the hide with regular salt. Do not feel sorry for the salt, it should cover the entire surface of the flesh (the inner part of the hide). The salt will absorb moisture from the skin and prevent decomposition. Wait until the skin begins to emit a characteristic creak when moving. This means that the skin is completely dry.
Step 2
The drying process can take several weeks. All this time, make sure that the edges of the skin do not bend. After that, pour 11.5 liters of boiling water over the bran. Leave the mixture like this for about an hour. Strain the resulting broth through a sieve. Boil 15 liters of water. Add a kilogram of salt to boiling water and mix thoroughly. When the salt dissolves, add the bran broth to the container. Stir the liquid. Leave this mixture to cool to room temperature.
Step 3
Carefully pour the car battery acid into a container of salted water. Try to be gentle and avoid splashing liquid. Stir the acid and broth. Dip the skin into this mixture. It should be completely saturated with liquid. Keep the skin in the solution for about 40 minutes, stirring the solution from time to time.
Step 4
Take a second container, pour clean warm water into it. Take out the skin with a long wooden stick and place it in the prepared basin. Rinse your fur and leather. Stir the skin with a stick, replace the dirty water with clean water as needed.
Step 5
If you intend to use this fur as a garment material, add two packs of baking soda to the leather wash water. Hang clean skins to dry. Lubricate the wet skin with hoof oil. Gently stretch the treated hide and nail it to the deck so that the edges do not bend. Add two packs of baking soda to the unnecessary acid broth and pour into a deserted place where nothing grows.
