There are many places on Earth where hot and dry weather lasts for a long time. Very harsh conditions for ordinary life forms can be observed in most of the deserts of Asia, Africa and North America. But there are special places on the planet where the temperature breaks every conceivable record.
The hottest places on the planet
For several decades, the Libyan city of Al-Aziziya was considered the hottest place on Earth. In 1922, meteorologists recorded a temperature of 58 ° C in this area. The city in Libya held the climate record for almost ninety years. During this time, this indicator, however, was repeatedly questioned by experts, since they believed that the measurements were made with errors.
El-Azizia can be safely attributed to the hottest places on the planet, because in the summer months the temperature here often reaches 48 ° C.
Death Valley, located in California, also consistently demonstrates high positions among other hot places on the planet. Quite often the thermometer rises above 50 ° C here. Death Valley is distinguished by a significant number of days a year with the highest temperatures. Few life forms are found in this low, arid and desolate place.
Planet temperature record
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Iranian Deshte-Lut desert has been holding the palm among the "hot" spots of the planet. This arid place occupies the central part of the Iranian Highlands. The desert teeming with salt marshes is more than five hundred kilometers long and more than two hundred kilometers wide.
This region, scorched by the sun and abandoned by people, is rarely visited by meteorological specialists, so regular temperature measurements are not carried out here.
The American satellite still managed to determine the temperature in the Deshte-Lut desert, and the observations were carried out for several years. The spacecraft data showed that from 2004 to 2007, as well as in 2009, the temperature in this area significantly exceeded the readings of thermometers in other regions of the world. And in 2005, the equipment registered a temperature above 70 ° C in the Iranian desert. This indicator has become the highest of all that have been recorded on the planet for the entire time of observations.
Scientists increasingly rely on information obtained from equipment installed on space satellites for their climate research. This approach makes it possible to significantly simplify the measurement procedure. The fact is that the overwhelming number of desert land areas, where, in principle, temperature records are possible, are so remote and difficult to access that it is not possible to regularly take indicators there. The construction of meteorological stations in deserts is a deliberately unprofitable business. Ground equipment may simply not be able to withstand thermal stress.
