Step 1
Since most annual flowers have a fairly long growing season, you will have to take care of healthy seedlings in advance. To do this, you must fulfill four basic conditions: acquire healthy, viable seeds; take care of the preparation of a high-quality substrate (earthen mixture) for sowing; create the most comfortable conditions for seedlings and normal growth of seedlings; provide seedlings with qualified care.
Step 2
Pay special attention to preparing a quality substrate. It is very important that it is a completely fresh, unused substrate with a high content of nutrients, loose and good moisture retention. For asters, levkoes, snapdragons, fragrant tobacco and petunias prone to black leg disease, it is better not to add humus. You can limit yourself to a mixture of turf, sand, peat in a ratio of 3: 1: 1. But to other flower crops, you can safely add some of the humus.
Step 3
Start cooking the substrate in the fall, placing it in a cool, moist place. Approximately 2-3 weeks before sowing, the land needs to be "brought to life", that is, warmed.
Step 4
Before sowing, be sure to treat the prepared seeds with a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate and dry them, thereby protecting them from possible pathogens of fungal diseases.
Step 5
Seeds should be planted in shallow containers with good drainage, for which, put expanded clay, coarse sand or pebbles on the bottom. The reference for the substrate level is approximately 1.5 cm below the edge of the container.
Step 6
Place the seeds in the soil along the grooves. For large ones, mix them with the soil and spread them evenly over the entire surface. The soil should be moderately moist. Too much moisture can cause rotting and death of plants.
