Spokes are important components of a bicycle's wheels, and the installation quality determines its ride quality. If you are repairing your bike yourself, pay special attention to installing the spokes.

Necessary

  • - knitting needles;
  • - rim;
  • - pliers;
  • - machine oil.

Instructions

Step 1

Lubricate the spoke threads and wheel rims with machine oil. Pay attention to the holes on the flange. If they are countersinked on only one side, install the spokes on the opposite side. Insert nine spokes into the front wheel flange with one hole left between them. Rotate the wheel and keep the nipple tension evenly, install the remaining spokes.

Step 2

Begin installing the spokes on the rear wheel from the threaded part of the hub. Look for the right side of the valve inlet among the offset holes on the rim. Insert the first spoke into it, twisting the nipple two turns. Count four holes from the installed rear wheel spoke in a clockwise direction and install the second spoke. Both spokes must connect the rim to the hub so that there are three unoccupied holes between them. Install the next seven knitting needles in every fourth hole.

Step 3

Unfold the rear wheel of the bike and install the nine spokes in sequence on the left flange. Examine the wheel. If the rim is properly seated, the nipple holes should be interspersed with the free holes around the entire circumference. Make sure the nipples are screwed in a few turns.

Step 4

Install the tensioning spokes, the heads of which should be located on the inside of the flange. Insert one of the spokes into the hole in the flange and screw the bushing so that the spokes already installed are towards the flanges. The first nine spokes should be inserted into the holes in the rim offset to the corresponding flange. Following this principle, dial the rest of the knitting needles. Once installation is complete, screw all the nipples to the same depth so that the spokes are evenly tensioned. Reinstall the rim and fine-tune and tighten the rim by scrolling its axle circle.
