Large format printing was originally used for advertising purposes only, but more and more recently it is used for home interiors. Photographic image quality, combined with the use of environmentally friendly materials, has greatly expanded the scope of this technology.
It would be more correct to call this method of applying an image widescreen. For such printing, special equipment is used, which is called a plotter. It resembles a conventional inkjet printer, but is much larger to print on large format materials. It should be noted that there are also laser and thermal transfer printers for large-format printing, but due to the high cost of production, they are less common among professionals.
Paper, film, banner fabric and a number of different materials that are supplied in rolls can be used as printing raw materials. The length of the printed image is not limited, but the width depends on the modification of the plotter and can be of any size from 600 mm and more. While the largest representative of large-format equipment is recorded in Moscow, this printer is able to print an area of fifteen meters wide.
Large format printing in advertising
For enclosed spaces, printing can be performed on ordinary thick paper, these are well-known posters or posters. In outdoor advertising, paper is used only for the construction of city light, under the glass of which it is not affected by weather conditions. It is made in a special way and is called backlight paper.
For outdoor advertising products, printing is carried out with special solvent inks that are well absorbed into the material and do not fade. This is how banners are made of special PVC fabric, banner mesh, self-adhesive film for display glasses and billboards. There is a special type of film for advertising on transport or for preserving some of the natural light of the premises, on the windows of which the gluing will be made. Perforated film allows up to 60% of the light to enter the room, but the brightness and vividness of the image is not reduced.
Large format printing in the interior
Unlike advertising materials, which do not require high print resolution, since they are located at a great distance from the viewer, interior printing is performed with a resolution of 720 to 1440 pixels per inch of surface and has an ideal image quality.
Depending on its purpose, the materials listed above can be applied. Most often, in the design of an apartment or commercial space, you can find large-format photo wallpapers, printing on stretch ceilings, decorating doors and window blinds.
