In prosperous Europe, the bicycle is a popular form of transport, despite the presence of several cars in every family. This two-wheeled vehicle - an alternative to private cars - reduces traffic flow when traveling on city streets. It is no secret that the problem of traffic jams is very acute for the Moscow authorities, so it was decided to provide the city with the most favorable treatment for cyclists.

Already, a lot has been created for bicycles in Moscow, but by 2016 the authorities of the capital plan to almost double and organize parking space for all types of transport. In four years, an additional 72.6 km of dedicated cycle paths should appear in this metropolis. It is planned to organize 10,000 parking spaces for personal bicycles near metro stations and large shopping centers.

The officials plan to create favorable conditions for this category of traffic participants. They believe that such measures will increase the cycle flow, first to 1 and then to 10% of all transport movements in Moscow. The initiative of the mayor's office is supported by the cyclists themselves - they offered the authorities and the Ministry of Transport their “Concept for the development of cycling in the Russian Federation”, developed by the public organization “Cycling Union”.

Today, the relative safety of movement for cyclists is ensured only on the territory of Moscow parks. Already about 15 km of convenient trails pass through the territory of parks on Vorobyovy Gory, in Troparevo, Kuskovo and Kuzminsky forest park. Since last year, on the Luzhnetskaya embankment, bicycle markings with a length of 2.5 km have appeared. The authorities promise to expand the network of safe lanes along which it will be possible to ride a bicycle to any part of the city - they plan to equip and build 119 more bike paths.

By September 2012, the Moscow Construction Department wants to put into operation 3 bike trails, the total length of which will be about 30 km. In the southeast of Moscow, in early August, it will be possible to ride from Lyublinskaya Street to the projected in Kapotnya lane No. 5467. In the winter months, a ski route will run along this route, apparently for cyclists who do not want to lose their sports form during a forced downtime.

The new cycle route is also planned to be laid along the Yaroslavskoye highway up to the intersection with the Moscow Ring Road; the length of the cycle track will be 4 km and will be put into operation in March. Reconstruction of the highway “Rublevskoe shosse - Balaklavsky prospect” will be carried out soon, as a result of which part of the road will also be allocated for cycling.
