The first information about devices operated by steam power dates back to the beginning of the first century BC. Since then, steam engines have undergone many changes, constantly improving. The simplicity of the operating principle made the steam engine indispensable in various sectors of the economy. You can make a steam turbine yourself.
Necessary
- - tin can;
- - tin lids from cans;
- - a strip of tin;
- - metal rivets;
- - screw with nut;
- - aluminum wire;
- - a tablet of dry fuel (spirit lamp, candle);
- - pliers;
- - soldering iron;
- - flux for soldering aluminum.
Instructions
Step 1
Cut two circles out of the tin lids. Make one of them equal in size to the diameter of the can, which will act as a steam boiler. Make a turbine from the second tin circle. Select the size of the turbine taking into account the overall dimensions of the structure.
Step 2
From a pre-prepared long aluminum rivet (its size should be about 14 mm), make a nozzle by tapping with a hammer and reducing its diameter to 0.6 mm.
Step 3
Make two holes in the cover - for the nozzle and the filler hole. In this case, place the filler hole closer to the edge of the cover, otherwise it will be difficult to tighten the fastening bolt later.
Step 4
Using a soldering iron, attach the nozzle and nut to the cover. When brazing an aluminum nozzle, use a general purpose brazing liquid or aluminum brazing flux (for example, F59A). Solder the lid to the body of the can, having previously cleaned the bonded surfaces from the polymer coating with sandpaper.
Step 5
Start making the turbine. Divide the tin circle first into four equal parts, then each part in half and again in half. You should have sixteen blades. Cut the resulting petals along to half the radius. Bend the resulting turbine blades using a pair of pliers. Solder the rivet head to the center of this structure.
Step 6
Bend the turbine holder in the shape of the letter "P" from a strip of tin; make it wider than the length of the two rivets. Solder the turbine into the holder so that it can rotate freely. In this case, the axis will be the center rod of the rivet.
Step 7
Solder the holder with the turbine to the cover above the nozzle, making sure that the rotating parts of the structure do not catch on anything. From a piece of aluminum wire, make a stand for the resulting structure. The turbine is now ready for operation.
Step 8
Pour water into the boiler using a plastic bottle. The water level must not exceed half the boiler volume. Close the water fill hole using a sealing washer made from the lead sheath of the cable. Make a fire (an ordinary candle is suitable for this) and wait for the water to boil. Pressurized steam will escape through the nozzle and drive the turbine.
