Gasoline pumps of injection engines have two main functions - supplying fuel from the tank to the place where the mixture is formed and creating the required pressure in the injection system. One of the main reasons for the malfunction of the fuel pump is poor-quality, highly contaminated fuel.

Instructions

Step 1

Typical signs of a fuel pump malfunction are problems when starting, when the engine either does not start at all, or starts for too long. During operation, interruptions in the operation of the motor are possible, as well as the unstable nature of the idle speed. In electric fuel pumps, the pressure in the system sometimes drops.

Step 2

First check if there is a fuel leak. To do this, connect the fuel pressure indicator and turn off the engine at the same time. If after 5 minutes the pressure is below 1.6 atmospheres, it means that one of the injectors or the regulator is leaking fuel. To eliminate the malfunction, using the fuel pump repair kit, replace the gaskets, filter, valves and diaphragm one after the other.

Step 3

Sometimes the reason for the failure of the fuel pump is the fuel tank, in which, during its manufacture, small metal particles could remain, falling into the pump with the fuel and disabling it. A symptom of such a problem may be repeated breakdowns of the fuel pump several times in a row with the correct operation of other vehicle systems. In this case, carefully inspect the tank, rinse it, and replace it if necessary.

Step 4

If traces of oil leakage are found, check the reliability of the fuel pump attachment to the cylinder block, and then - the condition of the heat-insulating sealing gaskets.

Step 5

To remove the pump, first disconnect the supply and delivery gas lines, unscrew the fastening nuts, remove the spring washers, and then the gas pump itself.

Step 6

In the case when deformed diaphragms become the cause of the failure of the gas pump, they can be strengthened with a temporary diaphragm made of ordinary plastic film. In this case, the damaged diaphragms should not be thrown away, but only place a polyethylene diaphragm between them.

Step 7

Sometimes on cars with high mileage at maximum load, the fuel pump is "sewn up". The reason is the weakening of the diaphragm spring. On the road, stretch the spring slightly and then put it back in place.
