Monstera is a very famous houseplant, loved by many for its showiness. But not everyone knows that, in addition to huge openwork leaves, it can also please with flowering.

Monstera is a tropical plant. Several species of it are known, which are adapted for keeping in room conditions. In nature, this liana blooms every year, giving edible (in the gourmet monstera) fruits that taste and aroma resemble pineapple. Monstera flowers are quite beautiful - greenish cobs, as if wrapped in a dense snow-white blanket. In general, they resemble a feces flower, only large in size (about 20 cm). Inflorescences appear, as a rule, at the base of the plant, usually in two, sometimes three at a time.

In indoor conditions, monstera blooms very rarely, because not every grower is able to create a microclimate similar to the South American one. But if you want to see this tropical liana bloom, you can try. The plant is best placed on the east side or south (but not on the north). Monstera does not like direct sunlight, drafts. It does not tolerate drought or excessive watering, ideally, the monster needs to be replanted every spring, and in the summer it should be fed 1 - 2 times.

Monstera loves spraying, so she should take a shower every day, and in hot weather even two or three times a day. In addition to maintaining a microclimate for flowering monstera, you need to regularly prune. This promotes the growth of side shoots and buds. Pruning is best done when the plant is dormant, that is, in winter or early spring, before the plant begins to grow intensively. Aerial roots should not be touched; it is better to dig them into the ground or immerse them in bottles of water in order to deliver more nutrition to the vine.

Subject to all conditions, monstera can bloom in the second year. Flowering occurs most often in summer, when the room is set to the optimum temperature and humidity, close to the conditions of the tropics. Then the buds may appear. At first, the elongated greenish bud is unremarkable, but later, when the flower opens, one cannot fail to notice the imposing "white sail" of a single petal framing the soft green ear. Sometimes the petal can be yellowish or pinkish. Flowering lasts for several days, then the petal seems to stiffen and falls off, and the ear, which is an inflorescence, begins to ripen, gradually changing its color to purple. After about a year, the fruit, which resembles a cucumber in size and shape, can be removed and tasted (delicious monstera). You cannot eat an unripe fruit, since it can be poisoned, because the monstera plant is poisonous.

The best way to achieve flowering of a monstera is to grow it in a greenhouse or greenhouse, because it is easier to create the necessary conditions there. Sometimes an insulated balcony is also suitable for this. But even a non-blooming tropical liana is able to decorate any room, adding a little exotic to it.
