Motorists, faced with the problem of air leakage in the engine, solve it in different ways. Some immediately drive their car to a service center, while others try to solve the problem on their own. To eliminate the leakage, you will need a smoke generator, which is also useful for diagnosing other automotive devices.

Necessary

  • - smoke generator;
  • - compressor;
  • - battery;
  • - a set of adapters.

Instructions

Step 1

At car service stations, a smoke generator is used to detect air leaks. Such a unit can be assembled independently, but the factory version is more reliable. The principle of operation of the smoke generator is based on the fact that the device, where air can be sucked in, is filled with colored smoke, which is formed from a special liquid.

Step 2

Before starting work, read the instructions and technical characteristics of the unit. The set of the device includes a set of adapters: heater power regulator, evaporator module, choke adapter, plastic box, hose, LED flashlight.

Step 3

Position the smoke generator as close as possible to the places where air is suspected to be leaking. Using a throttle-adapter, connect the inlet connection of the device with a source of compressed air, the outlet connection with a hose - with an inlet manifold. Install the plug on the intake port.

Step 4

Connect the electronic regulator to the power supply. Connect the smoke generator via rechargeable batteries using alligator clips. Connect the unit to the air compressor using the quick connector. So you can diagnose any system, it, filled with smoke, will immediately show where the air is leaking. In addition to the battery, you can use a constant voltage source of 11-15 V and a power of 5 A.

Step 5

Set the handle to maximum and start feeding compressed air into the generator. If smoke appears, set the handle to the optimal position or set to the minimum position. The compressed air from the smoke generator comes out at a pressure of about 1-2 bar. Use a tire inflator to supply it. Wait about 2 minutes, during which time the required amount of smoke is generated.

Step 6

On the outside of the smoke generator there is a light indicator that signals the owner of the car about detected air leaks.

Step 7

Use a pressure gauge to control the smoke pressure, which should not be higher than 0.5 bar. Some parts can be deformed under high pressure.
