The explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (Chernobyl nuclear power plant) is considered the largest man-made disaster of mankind. Of course, this man-made tragedy is not the first or the last atomic accident, but so far (and this is fortunately) there is nothing comparable in scale with what happened on the morning of April 26, 1986.

Instructions

Step 1

The consequences of the man-made in Chernobyl are still making themselves felt, because the radiation that killed many people has a detrimental effect on their children and grandchildren. It all happened on April 26, 1986. As a result of some professional miscalculations, the fourth power unit of the nuclear power plant, which was located on the territory of modern Ukraine in the city of Pripyat, was destroyed by an explosion. As a result, various radioactive substances and chemicals were released into the environment.

Step 2

The radioactive cloud that formed from the burning reactor sprayed most of the European territory with all kinds of radioactive materials and radionucleides (for example, cesium and iodine). Later, small radioactive fallouts were noticed on the territory of the Soviet Union, located next to the exploded nuclear reactor. Currently, these are the territories of three states: Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

Step 3

Experts estimate that 190 tons of various chemical compounds were released into the atmosphere. The first three months after the death of 31 people, and the consequences of radiation, which were revealed over the next 15 years, became the undeniable reasons for the deaths of about 80 people. It is noted that 134 thousand people suffered from radiation sickness. A nuclear explosion that occurred on that April morning, people evacuated from an area with a radius of 30 km from the very epicenter. 115 thousand people left their homes.

Step 4

It should be noted that the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster have not yet been fully eliminated. It is curious that such a number of dead and radiation-exposed people could have been avoided if the authorities had sounded the alarm in a timely manner. Alas, no one wanted to sow panic on the masses. The first mention of this man-made disaster was dated April 30 of the same year. Then in the newspaper "Izvestia" there was a note that a fire broke out on the territory of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. And only on May 15, 1986, the President of the USSR M. S. Gorbachev, who spoke about the fact that a global man-made accident occurred in this territory.

Step 5

The 1986 Chernobyl disaster is the largest tragedy in the nuclear power industry. As a result of the release of chemicals, an area of 144 thousand square kilometers was polluted. If then the authorities had not made a decision on the temporary maintenance of this emergency in secrecy, then the accident could have caused much less harm.
