The most important factors affecting the efficiency of the outboard motor are the tilt angle of the engine and the position of its anti-cavitation plate relative to the bottom. How to properly secure the motor to the boat?

Instructions

Step 1

Before installing the outboard motor, it must be delivered to the installation site. In order to avoid problems during transportation, it is necessary to adhere to some rules.

Step 2

Transport methods for your outboard motor may vary depending on the type of motor. Read the instruction manual for your motor carefully. Inspect it, paying particular attention to the labels and warning decals. They usually indicate the shipping position. Drain the fuel tank and take the motor to the installation site.

Step 3

Determine the required amount of transom motor offset. In theory, the outboard motor should be offset 5 cm from the center of the transom to the starboard side of the boat. This displacement is necessary in order to compensate for the torque that occurs during the operation of the screw. In practice, however, the profile of your boat must be considered when installing the motor. The larger the “deep V” profile, the more displacement will be required.

Step 4

Determine the mounting height of the motor. You should be aware that the motor anti-cavitation plate should be installed 3-5 cm below the bottom. This arrangement provides optimal conditions for the operation of the outboard motor.

Step 5

Adjust the engine tilt angle. The trim can be adjusted by changing the position of the pin in the engine mount clamp. The angle of inclination should be chosen based on the desired speed of movement, weather conditions, as well as the degree of loading of your boat. Be aware that too much trim reduces the boat's controllability and makes it less stable.
