Passion for historical reconstruction led to the appearance of injuries that modern surgeons considered a relic of the past. A patient wounded by an arrow is no longer surprised. During reconstructions of major battles, an ambulance is usually on duty in the vicinity of the battlefield. But a person can get a wound with an arrow or a sword even where there is no doctor nearby.

Necessary

  • - pain reliever;
  • - antiseptic;
  • - dressing material;
  • - nippers;
  • - tongs;
  • - a sharp knife;
  • - hydrogen peroxide;
  • - alcohol;
  • - polyethylene film;
  • - patch.

Instructions

Step 1

Examine the wounded man. It is advisable to get it to a doctor as soon as possible. If this is not possible, assess the situation and consider whether you can provide assistance on your own. This is possible if the injury is not cavity. For example, an arrow hit the shoulder, buttock, or other soft tissue.

Step 2

Determine the boom type. If this happened during the game, it will not be difficult to find the owner and ask what is his arrowhead. They are of two types - smooth and serrated. The serrations were invented precisely to make the arrow more difficult to pull out. Remove the smooth arrow from the wound in a smooth motion opposite to its motion. Avoid jerking, which can cause additional injury.

Step 3

Treat the wound with hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine. Apply a sterile dressing. Even if you have the first aid skills and performed the operation with high quality, send the injured person to the doctor. It is possible that he needs anti-tetanus treatment or other injections.

Step 4

In case of a through wound of soft tissues (when the arrow with a smooth tip has passed right through), proceed as follows. If the tip comes out completely, bite it off with pliers. Remove the shaft with a movement in the opposite direction to the arrow.

Step 5

If the tip does not come out completely, use pliers to bite off the feathering of the boom. Wipe the remaining outside of the shaft with alcohol. With the pliers hooked on the tip, pull the boom outward as it travels. Treat the wound with an antiseptic and bandage.

Step 6

In the event that the tip with notches, preventing backward movement, does not enter too deeply, bite off the plumage of the arrow with pliers. Disinfect the shaft with alcohol. Carefully tilt the boom so that its tip is as close to the surface of the body as possible. At the same time, there should be no bones, tendons or large blood vessels in the path of the arrow. Holding the shaft, slide the arrow in the direction of its travel until it reaches the skin surface and exits. If you have difficulty piercing the skin, you can make an incision with a sterilized knife or lancet. When the end of the boom is outside, hook it in with the pliers and pull it out. Treat the wound and take care to get the victim to a doctor.
