Cast iron bathtub is the most durable accessory in apartments. Some people prefer to cover it with a new layer of enamel, while others, when replacing the bathtub, try to take it out of the room entirely. When it comes to dismantling a bathroom, the most important problem arises - its heavy weight and large volume, which does not fit into the cramped aisles of small apartments. However, there is an option - it is to break the cast-iron bath.
Necessary
- - sledgehammer;
- - hammer drill or grinder;
- - thick working gloves;
- - dense garbage bags;
- - construction safety glasses;
- - respirator;
- - burlap or a piece of dense fabric not less than 1-1.5 sq.m.
Instructions
Step 1
Breaking a cast-iron bath is quite hard physical work. It will take a lot of effort and, of course, only a physically prepared person is suitable for this work. The process of breaking the bath is loud and noisy, so do it only during the daytime.
Step 2
Free up as much space around the tub to pick up the debris more easily. Protect the floor with a soft cloth. In order not to harm yourself, put on construction gloves or mittens, goggles on your eyes, and a respirator on your face.
Step 3
For easier crushing of the cast-iron bath with a sledgehammer in several places, cut its edges with a grinder or make holes with a puncher. This procedure is laborious, noisy and lengthy. In principle, the bathtub can be completely cut with a grinder (metal nozzle), but this will require much more time and effort than a few strokes with a sledgehammer.
Step 4
To minimize splinters, cover the most cast-iron tub with a thin cloth or burlap and hit it hard with the sledgehammer. 5-10 hard blows are enough to split the bathtub into two parts. Then break the large pieces a few more times - it is much easier to take out the smaller pieces from the apartment.
Step 5
Without removing your gloves, collect all the fragments in sturdy garbage bags and take them out of the apartment.
Step 6
It would be rather rash to just throw the pieces of the cast-iron bath in the trash. Do not be too lazy to get to the second ferry collection point. So you can make a profit and partially recoup a new bath or shower stall. On average, prices for a cast-iron bath (even in a split state) range from 2,500 to 5,000 rubles.
Step 7
If you are unable to take out the fragments on your own, even beyond the threshold of the apartment, call the garbage collection company. Be sure to indicate that you want to take out the fragments of the cast iron bath. Usually, workers come for this type of construction waste rather quickly and charge a conditional fee for the service (since they themselves will take it to the secondary metal).
