The Sverdlovsk Region is one of the economically developed subjects of the Russian Federation. It is a region that is part of the Ural Federal District.
The administrative center is the city of Yekaterinburg. In the west, the region borders on the Perm Territory. The northern border of the subject is the Khanty-Mansiysk District and the Komi Republic. In the east, the Tyumen region is located in the neighborhood. On the southern side, the border of the region runs from the Kurgan and Chelyabinsk regions and the Republic of Bashkortostan. The region was founded on January 17, 1934.
Territorial division. The Sverdlovsk Region includes 47 cities, 99 workers' and urban-type settlements, 1821 rural settlements.
Industry. The region is rich in minerals. The industrial complex is based on ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.
Mechanical engineering is well developed in the Sverdlovsk region. The emphasis is on the heavy military-industrial complex. The basis is the production of armored vehicles and ammunition. The factories also specialize in the manufacture of equipment for the chemical, energy and mining industries. Woodworking and instrumentation should also be noted.
The region has a well-developed cultural, educational and scientific potential. On the territory of the region there are several dozen educational institutes, more than six hundred museums, public and private. Cultural life is represented by theaters, of which there are no less than 30 theaters on the territory of the Sverdlovsk region, and there are also about 500 amateur theater associations.
The Sverdlovsk region, like most others, is multinational. The predominant population is Russians, followed by Tatars, Ukrainians, Bashkirs, Mari, Germans and others.
Religious organizations belong to different denominations. The most widespread in the territory of the Sverdlovsk region are Orthodox churches, less often there are institutions of adherents of Islam, Judaism, Lutheranism, Buddhism, as well as sectarian organizations.
The highest official is the governor. The legislative branch is represented by the Assembly, which is elected for a 5-year term. The executive branch is the regional government, which includes ministries, departments and offices.
The Sverdlovsk Region is the most important transport interchange. Air, rail and road routes pass through the territory. One of the most famous is the Trans-Siberian Railway.
