A hurricane is one of the types of natural disasters, which is a fast and strong movement of air. The zone of destruction during hurricanes can reach several hundred kilometers, and the duration of this natural phenomenon is very significant - up to 9-12 days.
Instructions
Step 1
The peculiarity of a hurricane as a natural phenomenon is that the pressure in its center is extremely low. There is a funnel called the "eye of the storm". Its width at the base reaches 20-25 km. There are no winds inside the funnel, but its walls are a zone of strong rotation for tens of kilometers. Outside the walls, the wind speed drops sharply, the height of the thundercloud decreases. In this case, they say that the hurricane is passing.
Step 2
Hurricane speed varies. Sometimes they do not stand still for long, and then move at a speed of several kilometers per hour to several dozen (on average, 50-60 km / h). The maximum progress of a hurricane is 150-200 km / h.
Step 3
The destructive activity of hurricanes is obvious. But often the greatest danger is posed by accompanying phenomena: hurricane waves, heavy rainfall, snowfalls, floods, which lead to the destruction of the infrastructure of settlements and often to human casualties.
Step 4
The question arises: how to protect yourself during a hurricane? When a hurricane is approaching, a "storm warning" is usually given. After receiving information, close the doors, attics. Cover closed windows with strips of cloth or paper. Remove heavy and large objects from window sills, balconies, loggias, which are most traumatic when falling. Turn off the gas. Prepare devices and items of emergency lighting: lanterns, candles. Place containers with drinking water and food that form the basis of the dry ration in a safe place. Place essential medicines and dressings in a prominent place.
Step 5
An interesting fact is that in areas where hurricanes often occur, brick and stone individual houses are almost never built, since the lightweight construction of the house (made of thin bars) during destruction is not capable of causing great harm to the health of the owners, and besides recovers quickly. However, if you are in a light structure, move into a solid building or take cover in a basement or underground structure until the storm ends.
