When studying the geography of any area, it is important to be able to determine which climatic region or belt it belongs to. The natural conditions of a particular area of the Earth depend on this, for example, the species of plants and animals that inhabit it, as well as weather conditions.

Step 1
Specify the geographical location of the area, the climatic specifics of which you want to determine. The closest to the equator are areas with an equatorial climate, further, at a distance from the equator line - zones with a tropical climate. Further south and north - the subtropics, some of which, for example, capture the Mediterranean Sea region. Further, closer to the poles, there are regions with a temperate climate, which occupy a significant part of Europe, North Asia and North America. Actually at the poles and close to them there are zones with arctic and subarctic climates.
Step 2
Take into account the average temperature at the location where the climate is determined. The equatorial climate is characterized by a consistently high temperature throughout the year - 24-28 degrees Celsius. In the tropics, temperature changes are more noticeable depending on the season. In tropical deserts, the hottest climate can be observed during the summer, with an average temperature of over 30 degrees. In winter, it can drop to 10-15 degrees. In the subtropics, winter temperatures can be even lower. The temperate climate is characterized by average freezing temperatures in winter and cooler summers. Polar regions are known for their low temperatures in winter (up to -60 degrees) and also cold summers, often with negative temperatures.

Note the specifics of the atmosphere over the climatic region. Areas with a constant monsoon - wind blowing from the ocean in summer and near the ocean in winter - are characterized by sharp changes in humidity during the seasons. Such areas, located mainly in Southeast and South Asia, as well as in South America, are characterized by a specific changeable monsoon climate. On the contrary, winds such as trade winds keep the weather stable. Associated with this is the situation when in the tropical climatic zone it is possible to observe areas with very different weather.
