Homosexual women are called lesbians. In other words, these are women who wish to have sexual intercourse with each other. The process of mutual satisfaction of their sexual needs is called lesbianism. The reasons why intimate relationships arise between the representatives of the beautiful half of humanity are rooted in the biological and social component of their life.
Why Lesbians?
According to one version, this term originated from the name of the Greek island of Lesvos. It is believed that it was there that a woman named Sappho was born and lived her entire life. This is an ancient Greek poetess. She became famous for the fact that her poems were perceived by society as a chant and propaganda of female same-sex love.
According to some ancient sources, Sappho still had a connection with men, which means that there was no lesbian connotation in her work. For example, the Greek rhetorician and Platonic philosopher Maxim Tirsky generally wrote that the relationship between Sappho and her disciples was platonic, but not carnal.
According to another version, the first homosexual women appeared on the island of Lesvos, since there were practically no men on it. Women did not know how to satisfy their sexual needs to the fullest until they entered into a mutual relationship with each other. Hence their name.
Why become lesbians?
According to modern ideas about the quality of life of people, today's lesbians have special psychological, medical and social needs. It is believed that today this or that sexual orientation of a woman largely depends on environmental and biological factors. All of these are statements by American scientists.
In their opinion, lesbians most often become those women who have significant problems in obtaining certain pleasures from their own lives. Scientists believe that such women simply cannot feel completely happy.
Experts are sure that the propensity for non-traditional sexual orientation is directly dependent on the level of serotonin. It is a hormone of happiness. It is also possible that when it rises in the body of a lesbian, she will want to build a heterosexual relationship.
Freudian lesbianism
The Austrian scientist and psychologist Sigmund Freud was sure that all women are a priori "a little bi". He saw the nature of female bisexuality in close contact between a mother and her daughter. After all, it is the mother who breastfeeds the child, she caresses him and bathes him. As a result, the mother turns out to be the primary source of pleasure for her daughter.
Modern psychologists, relying on Freud's theory, are sure that today about 70% of all women on the planet are bisexual. But this does not mean that they are lesbians. Although some ladies, having tried same-sex sex once, deliberately hang on themselves the label of "honorable lesbian".
Tribute to fashion
Unfortunately, lesbianism has become fashionable today. The health problems of such girls and women are almost no longer of concern to modern society, since it is believed that lesbian relationships are a kind of style, a tribute to the current fashion. That is why today lesbians are called those women who themselves want to go around with this label, not hiding their dubious sexual inclinations.
